Valentine's Day as a child meant waking up and running into the kitchen. There were always three Russell Stover heart-shaped candy boxes on the table. My father always remembered his three daughters. It was a special way to start the day. Next came going to school and enjoying a Valentine’s Day party. The class moms always did a nice job with red and white cupcakes. Receiving handmade Valentines from classmates was the highlight of the day. Once, when I was in high school, the student council would sell red carnations to the student body. You could order a carnation to be sent to your favorite Valentine during the homeroom period. Rumor had it that some young ladies would send a flower to themselves anonymously, making it look like they had a secret admirer! I hope you have some fond memories of Valentine’s Day gone by.
